According to the pop star's rep, Brand popped the question to his lady love on New Year's Eve in a tent at the foot of a mountain in India. (Who knew the raunchy comic was so romantic?) Most of us might think a whirlwind romance like that wouldn't last, but their pairing just might be crazy enough to work.

Although the "Waking Up in Vegas" singer has found "the one," prior to the proposal she opened up to Glamour magazine about love, men, and more for their special "Man Issue" . Apparently, when searching for her soulmate, Katy was "excited to find a partner who can just be my teammate. And there's got to be respect. For me, that's hard because it's easy for me to steamroll guys. I need a man who tells me the party's over, that it's time to go home, because [we] have to work in the morning."

Shakira prepares to build school in Haiti

Colombian pop star Shakira has joined Hollywood actors and other global celebrities to raise funds for the victims of the January 12 earthquake, flew into the wrecked Haitian capital Port-au- Prince aboard a private jet.

At the planned site of her Barefoot Haiti school, she met about a hundred children, some of whom danced to her songs. She then toured a camp housing nearly 50,000 people on a golf course. There, she met U.S. actor Sean Penn, whose own charity is also helping victims.

"We've come to make all the preparations to be able to start the building of a Barefoot school here in Haiti,"Shakire told Reuters in a brief interview.

She explained that the school would be modeled on similar establishments created by her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation, a charity that provides education, nutrition and psychological support to over six thousand Colombian children displaced by violence.

"We think we can employ what we've learned (in Colombia) here, apply it in this country which needs it so much at the moment,"Shakira added. The Haitian school would be built and run with other non-governmental organizations.

The Haiti quake, described by some experts as the deadliest natural disaster in modern history, may have killed more than 300,000 people, the Haitian government says. It also left more than a million people homeless, many of them young orphans.

Shakira said that providing education to Haitian children would be a key part of the reconstruction of the quake-shattered country, which even before the disaster was already the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere.

"We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti's children can be useful to their societies tomorrow ... Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti," she said.

Robert Pattinson Won't Play Cobain In Biopic

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Robert Pattinson won't be playing Kurt Cobain in a planned biopic, contrary to tabloid reports, Access Hollywood has learned.

A rep for "The Twilight Saga" star told Access that the report, which surfaced this week on the U.K.'s Sun, was false.

Instead, following this summer's "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," R-Pattz will bite into the period drama "Bel Ami," the Western "Unbound Captives" and the circus-themed "Water for Elephants" - in addition to the final "Twilight Saga" installment, "Breaking Dawn," which is still yet to be officially announced.

"Breaking Dawn" has been heavily rumored to be split into two films a la "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," though Summit Entertainment has not commented on such reports.Despite the false casting news, a biopic of Cobain, the Nirvana rocker who brought grunge into the mainstream before taking his own life, is indeed in the early stages of production. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that "The Messenger" director Oren Moverman would helm the picture, from a script by "Brothers" writer David Benioff.

She confirmed on Thursday morning that she's indeed dating slugger Matt Kemp, on " On Air With Ryan Seacrest". Rihanna's learning from her past relationship would be her bases of handling a new kind of relationship this time.

"He's my boyfriend!" she said. "It's new and it's fun. It's nothing too serious, I don't want anything that's going to take up so much of my energy and time right now in a bad way. I just want to have fun, that's what it's about."

Ricky Martin says he is gay

LOS ANGELES- Puerto Rican pop star singer Ricky Martin on Monday announced he was gay in a blog posting, ending years of speculation.

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," Martin wrote in a blog posting at www.rickymartinmusic.com.

"This is just what I need especially now that I am the father of two beautiful boys that are so full of light and who with their outlook teach me new things every day. To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with," Martin wrote.


Martin, 38, became a father to twin sons via a surrogate in 2008 and at the time no details were given about the birth or the mother.

He rose to fame, first as a member of the Latin boy band Menudo, then as a solo artist since 1991.

His career has spanned over three decades and has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. He is the founder of Ricky Martín Foundation (in Spanish Fundación Ricky Martin) a non-profit charity organization.


Martin has been nominated one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People magazine and its sister magazine People en Español in 2000 and 2006 respectively.

The Puerto Rican singer of hits such as "Livin' la Vida Loca," has long been the subject of speculation about his sexuality. In 2000, TV journalist Barbara Walters grilled him about whether he was gay, but he refused to disclose it.

Actor Corey Haim Died at 38

LOS ANGELES - Corey Haim, a Hollywood teen star of the 1980s who became as famous for his struggles with substance abuse as his acting, died in Los Angeles of an apparent prescription drug overdose. He was 38.

Canadian-born Haim, who rose to fame alongside fellow teen star Corey Feldman, was pronounced dead at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center early on Wednesday, police said.

"It was an apparent overdose," said Sergeant Frank Albarren of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station, adding the "type of medication" was unknown.

Ed Winter, assistant chief of the Los Angeles County coroner's office, told local television reporters Haim had been suffering flu-like symptoms and that his mother, who lived with the actor, found him distressed in the early morning hours and called paramedics who took him to the hospital.

He said coroners found some prescription medication in Haim's apartment but "no illicit drugs."

"There doesn't appear to be foul play," Winter said.

Haim first came to prominence in the 1986 movie "Lucas" alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. Then came his biggest hit, "The Lost Boys" with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Feldman, as well as "License to Drive," also with Feldman.

Haim became known for his on-screen partnership and off-screen friendship with Feldman, who also struggled with drug abuse.

They often were called "The Two Coreys" and the pair even starred in a reality TV series of the same name on U.S. cable television in 2006 but it was canceled before finishing the second season.

After battling a drug habit for years, Haim openly talked about overcoming his addictions around the time he was promoting his reality TV series and said that he had become clean and sober.
